Random Story #10

Accidents

                                                                             1

“Wake up….open your eyes, gently?” , he opened his weary eyes to be greeted by an unfamiliar face, she looked slightly worried , “where am I” he wondered , “how do you feel?” she continued to speak still quite worried, awareness hit him like a vicious slap, overwhelmed by the noise of the surroundings he felt a surge of acute pain in his head, panic-stricken he tried to sit up but his body was not ready, paralysis gripped him, it was like his entire body had frozen.

“Relax”, she said. “Just breath….inhale and exhale”, he did as instructed. ”Do you feel a little better?” “yeah” “Now try to move your body...slowly”, he lifted himself up, his body was responsive to his great relief. “what happened?”

“You were hit by a car…my car“ “What?” “yeah….you came out of nowhere, right  in front of my car, so I brought you here at the Apollo hospital, I am a doctor here. You have a few physical injuries but the good news is….” “oh no!!!!”, he looked enormously concerned.

“Whats wrong?”, she had a puzzled look on her face. ”How long have I been here?” “About  two hours” “Holy Shit!!!”, he leaped out of the bed and ran out of the room shouting “that is terrible…..that is fucking terrible!!”. Clueless about what just happened she called the nurses to help her stop the man who, as it seemed, had suddenly gone crazy.

                                                                            2

As Sam was about to enter the lift he remembered something, he had forgotten to take his wallet, “that’s my Sam eternally absent minded”, his mother would often say.  Sam thought he had already locked the door and the lift was here standing, waiting for him to aboard, it would be a shame to let it just leave, the cramped and dimly lit interiors of the lift suddenly seemed very inviting, who needs a wallet for a little evening jog, his mind was made, he went inside the lift. Sam was not only eternally absent minded, he also possessed a very healthy amount of laziness.

There was a slight chill in the air, winter was about a month away, the breeze made jogging fun. After fifteen minutes a drained Sam decided it was time for a bit of rest. He felt a vibration in his pockets, it was his mobile getting restless. He mined it out of the pocket of his running shorts, it was an unknown number. He got all excited trying to guess who it was on the other end, it was like when he was a kid and he did not know who on the other end of the line was, he had to guess by listening to the voice
.
“Hello”, Sam answered the call. The voice on the other end was completely unfamiliar, it was  cold and distant. It informed him that his wife was among the four people that had participated in a disastrous road accident, which resulted in her getting terribly injured and loosing a life threating amount of blood, she was lying in the intensive care unit of the Apollo hospital. Apparently Sam’s wife had a very rare blood type and unfortunately the hospital was out it. Fortunately though Sam had the same blood type, he informed the voice that he was on his way. The voice also mentioned that it was very sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

A plethora of emotions swept through Sam, he was not sure what he felt, he decided he needed to hurry, he must go up to his apartment get his wallet and car keys and rush to the hospital. He dashed out of the park into the main road and got hit by a car, the driver happened to be a young girl who was a resident doctor at the Apollo hospital. She took him to the hospital leaving his shattered phone abandoned on the road. Back in the ER once she was sure that he had stabilised she looked for some identification in his clothes, but he had none, Sam had left his wallet in his apartment, so all she could do was to wait for him to regain consciousness.

Random Story #9

It’s my first post after more than an year, I hope I am going to be a bit more regular henceforth. In the past one year I did achieve a major milestone, successfully completed my engineering. This also means that my college days are over…..at least for the time being. Now that my college hostel will no longer give me shelter I have relocated to Noida.

Enough about me…..following is my first story after more than an year, it's a short one I hope you enjoy it. For those who are new to my blog feel free to read my older post as well.

PAIN

“Goodbye”, he uttered his last words to her, as he saw her for the last time. Her eyes were overwhelmed with tears, she looked so sad yet so beautiful.

His eyes were closed, the pain was getting too severe, still he felt her teardrop hitting against his chest, it’s warmth seemed to engulf all the pain. She pressed the knife against his chest, he felt his life oozing out of him. He tried to remain calm, there was no point running from it, the end had come and he needed to embrace it.

‘Did I deserve it’, he wondered.

“You did”, her shaky voice broke the silence of the room.

She lifted the knife stuck in his heart, thick red blood pumped out of the open wound quickly turning his white t-shirt red. Something so horrible could happen to her she had never imagined but life has a way of surprising you. They were a happy family living the perfect life, two kids, a suburban house which was only one mortgage payment away from being their own, that’s when tragedy struck.

On a murky Friday evening her kids were run over by a silver Honda city, the driver was the man she loved, the father of her children, her husband.

The same man lay in front of her today, taking his last breath , her revenge was about to be complete, there was still pain, perhaps the pain had increased, but somewhere deep inside her heart she felt a sense of peace she had not felt since that fateful Friday evening. As she saw the last drop of life being sucked out of him doubt raised its ugly head.

‘Did he deserve it’, she wondered.

“Yes I did”, she heard a voice say.

Random Story #8

It's been so long i feel like i am starting all over agin. at one point i thought i was done blogging but fortunately i managed to get a grip of things. i thought i was taking a little break soon enough i was overwhelmed by my laziness, it has an uncanny control over me, but the good thing is that i am back to my blogging ways....i guess i have to do a lot of reading, as i get down to it here is an aptly named story no. 8
A NEW START
As he sat there on the bench waiting for someone to sit beside him, he was thinking of ways to start a conversation, how about the latest terrorist attacks, but that would be too intense. He thought it would be judicious to keep the topic a bit more casual, perhaps he would go with the weather but they were predicting cyclones in the next few days, nothing good could come out of that, he remained as uncertain as ever. He had been alone all his life, his parents died while he was still an infant, leaving behind for him millions in banks and trust funds. At a very early age he learnt that life without parents can be profoundly painful. To escape this pain he drowned himself in his stories. Now at 26 he wished he could do it all over again. Unable to connect with another human being made him suffocate, all the money in the world did not make any difference. His professional life was equally agonizing for him, he had devoted his entire life to writing yet his works weren’t good enough for the publishing world. He had written three novels each one of them inexpedient for the publishers in a different way. They found his books ‘too intellectual’ ,’incredibly complex’, ‘brilliant but lacking a market’, these repeated failure came with the realization that he had no one to turn to for support and advice which further aggravated his anguish. He felt insignificant like a thumb print on the window of a sky scraper. He was desperate to extricate himself from this low point of his life.
Every day in the evening he ventured to the nearby park looking for an opportunity to mingle with his fellow human beings. Unfortunately for him they were few and far fetched and everytime he did get a chance he was too petrified to say a word. Mostly he found himself sitting on a bench and every once in a while a young couple would join him, but mostly they were so busy figuring themselves out he would decided it was in the interest of everyone that he did not interfere, he did listen to their conversations making little mental notes in case he ever was in a similar situation, though he himself was hugely skeptical about his chances, mostly he used them as little events in his stories. He would try to steal glances and whenever he got caught he would leave the bench with a sheepish smile on his face. Sometimes he would visit the coffee shop while returning from the park. Today was one of those days. Everytime he visited a coffee shop he realized why he enjoyed spending time here. It was never too crowded, people kept to themselves and he always got good ideas for his stories here. After a while he saw that the place was full which was quite unusual, he noticed that he was the only one sitting alone as usual.
“Do you mind”, he lifted his head to find a young woman dressed in a formal attire, holding a cup of coffee, standing next to his table. “oh….not at all….go ahead”, he muttered feeling extremely anxious, she smiled and sat down. He wondered if this was the opportunity he was waiting for, how difficult could it be to start a conversation, it was the perfect setting but his mind went blank, on trying a little harder he found his head filled with everything absurd and irrelevant like stupid Viagra commercials and alien abduction stories. He looked at her for help, hoping she would utter something. “Can you please pass the sugar”, he passes it on with a lot of enthusiasm, she poured in a total of three teaspoons, “that’s a lot of sugar….”, he said barely managing to hide his excitement now that he had finally managed to say something. She smiled and said, “it’s been a tough day…”.
“so the worse your day the more sugar you have…”.
“yeah,  something like that but it’s never more than four not even on the worst of days...”
“I hear sugar can make you fat….aren’t you worried…. “, she smiled ,”after the amount of work I do, I feel  I can handle a few extra calories….”
“You work around here?”, he said trying to extend the conversation a little longer.   “yeah…..”
“Is it interesting?”      “well….it has it’s moments……what about you?”
“I am a writer”     “wow…..that can’t be bad…”
“You would be surprised how bad it can get……”    “oh……but it seems everybody is getting published these days…”
He felt a little humiliated yet managed to keep a straight face, “I was under the same illusion when I decided to enter the profession”, he said with a wry smile.
“what’s with all this negativity……..you are so young you just need to continue writing……I am sure eventually you will get published…”
‘she is so naïve’ he thought perhaps that’s why she is so optimistic, “as you can see I haven’t stopped trying…”
“you have already started  working on your next novel……that’s great…..what’s it about”
“no no…..this is just a short story I am writing for this online magazine…….it’s about a man who is planning his suicide sitting at a coffee shop..”
“huh…..that’s awfully sad…but you know what I find it weirdly interesting…”
“I guess…you really are having a bad day…..”, both of them laughed though he was more amused with the discovery that he  actually had a sense of humor.  She looked at her watch.
“oh dear……my masters give me only tiny windows of freedom… so I better be going…”, both of them looked at each other, he was completely unsure what his next move should be, he wished if it was one of his stories, soon an extremely uncomfortable silence erupted  between them. As she was about to leave she said, “I am  Ria”
“I am Jai”, he said almost immediately without waiting for her to stop
“It was nice meeting you Jai”     “nice to meet you too”. As he saw her leaving he couldn’t help but wallow in his happiness, all his disappointments seemed to have vanished, he felt completely rejuvenated, ” perhaps this is what they called human connection”,  he wondered but as he saw her merge into the sea of people outside he realized something important, he might want to meet her again, he dashed out of the café before it was too late.

Random Story #7

It’s been a while since I posted something, it’s not like I was busy or anything, I just didn’t feel like writing or reading, but as they say better late than never so here I am with a new story. Actually it is an extension an older story called “Hidden Intetions”, but don’t worry you don’t have to read it if you haven’t because this story stands well independently too. In any case if you do wish to read it here is the link.

DISASTROUS DESIRES

He was standing there looking at the picture, completely mesmerized by his own creation. Oh what a face he wondered looking at the portrait, and those eyes , so expressive yet so mysterious, as if telling the whole story but holding back the climax. The art gallery was filled with people, his paintings were a huge hit, most of them had already been sold, it was beyond his expectation, after all this was only his first exhibition. The painting that generated the most buzz was the very painting he was so lost in, the girl in the painting was the woman he loved, this was his special gift for her, no matter how much people were ready to pay for it, he rejected all the offers, it was because of her that this exhibition was held in the first place. She was the one who had encouraged him to pursue his passion or else he would still be doing his boring accounting job. He still couldn’t believe how he could be so lucky to have someone like her in his life, and this portrait was his way to show off to the world what he had and no matter what they did he was never going to let her go.
She was looking at the knife, watching the blood on it’s blade gave her a strange satisfaction, she knew she was not supposed to indulge herself in such a way but she could not help it, she barely escaped the last time, no matter how much she wished she was not going to kill again she had promised herself, she had a killer’s desire but she lacked a killer’s brain, she knew if she ever dared to kill again she would surely be caught, so she had to control herself for her own sake, moreover she was in a fulfilling relationship, he loved her madly and she knew he would never cheat on her like her  ex- husband. She was busy preparing a fancy meal, it was time for celebration, the exhibition was a success and both of them wanted to celebrate it alone, in a rush to finish the preparation she had cut her finger and now she was completely engrossed in it. She knew what she had to do next. She took out a cane and started hitting herself with it, this is the only way she knew to distract herself from the fantasy and get back to reality. He had often asked her about these injuries, she lied to him that her ex-husband used to physically abuse her.
It was a night of double celebration for him. She did not know it yet but a year ago on this very day he had seen her for the first time and had fallen in love with her instantly. She had come to his accounting firm because his firm did the accounts for her husband who was apparently murdered. He took it as a sign, the universe had given him a chance and he had to make the most of it, a year later they were together and his life had already changed forever. He decided he was going to ask her to marry him, no other day was better suited to do this, he had always been sure he was going to do it and now that he was successful there was no point in waiting. He stopped at the jewellery store and bought a beautiful diamond ring for her.
Something was wrong, no matter how many times she hit herself with the cane, the feeling refused to die. It had been more than an year since she had killed her husband, the desire was too strong, she felt her sane self being swallowed by it, she knew there was no point fighting it anymore. It was too late, she no longer had any control over herself. She went back to the kitchen picked up the knife and waited for him to return.
He could not wait to get back home, there was too much excitment, he drove the car as fast as he could. Ten minutes later he was there. He put the ring in his pocket, took the bottle of champagne he had bought and went toward the door.

55 Fiction

55 Fiction is a form of microfiction that refers to the works of fiction limited to a maximum of fifty-five words. I must say it is tougher than I thought it would be, nonetheless it was fun.

KILLING THE FEAR WITHIN

She stood there looking at the motionless body of her tormentor. The weapon, a steel rod, still in her hands. A nervous smile was on her face, she was not sadistic, but she refused to live in fear. First two strikes were a miss, the third was on target and the mouse never moved again.

Random Story #6

A FANTASY

It was around 11 at night, he was marching across his room in a constant to and fro motion, his hands were sweaty, his mouth dry, he felt an intense knot growing in his stomach, he was much less nervous during the presentation he conducted earlier this morning and managed to make a huge sale for his company. He was happy and wanted to celebrate but he was in a foreign land, and was alone on the trip. He had bought a bottle of red wine, he was not exactly an expert on wines, so he went for the ‘if it’s expensive it must be good’ rule. Back in his room he eagerly took out the bottle and found a pamphlet attached to it. He took it out to find pictures of semi naked Caucasian women all over it, the heading said ‘HOT BABES TO SATISFY ALL YOUR DESIRES', a few phone numbers were scribbled at the bottom, the pictures did the rest of the talking. Initially he was amused but as they an empty mind is a devils workshop, he began wondering. He was a 38 year old, married for about 15 years with two kids, but for the past few years sex has been a rarity. On the few occasions when it actually did happen it was nothing more than a set of routine steps which he had mastered over the years, initially he did try to spice things up by suggesting new things but his wife was not open to experimentation, soon even he lost interest and the act of pleasure had all the pleasure sucked out of it.
Some nights he felt very frustrated and thought about exploring other option, but during those weak hours it was the fear of ignominy that stopped him from doing something drastic, what if he got caught, he would loose his wife, his kids and above all his reputation and respect he has earned through years of hard work. It was way too risky, too much was on stake but today he had a chance. He was in a foreign land where nobody knew him, all he needed to do was make a phone call and that’s it. He had all his amorous feelings bottled inside of him for years, he was not sure how long he could contain them, after all he was a man and he had his needs but he didn’t want his family to suffer just because he wanted the fulfillment of a few of his desires, now he had an opportunity to get it all out of his system without doing any damage, he couldn’t just let it go. After an hour long mental battle he was finally able to justify it to himself, than he made the toughest phone call of his life, ‘blondes or brunettes’, the man on the other side asked for his preferences, ‘blonde’ he replied, ‘tall or short’ ,the man enquired, ‘tall’ was all that he could mutter, ‘500 dollars cash’, the man said, he instinctively wanted to bargain but his negotiation skills were nowhere to be found and the only word that came to his mind was ‘ok’. So $500 was set, he gave the man the address of the hotel and his room number, ‘Amanda will be there in about an hour’, the man said and the call finally ended and he could start breathing again. Very soon he began to feel  it was all too much for him to handle, he was getting too anxious, he needed alcohol, so after half a bottle of red wine here he was marching through his room. The bell rings, the wait finally ends, ‘Amanda’ was here.
‘Amanda’ was six feet tall, blonde as he had asked for, she had the figure of a goddess and the face of a doll, watching her magnificent form added to his anxiety and the knot in his stomach intensified, he realized he needed to puke, he ran to his bathroom, after ten traumatic minutes he came back to find ‘Amanda’ on the bed, ready for the act with two glasses of wine in her hand. This sight made matter worse for him. His whole body began shaking, he realized he could no longer stand, so he grabbed the table beside him for support, every cell of his body was screaming ‘NO’, apparently a man is not what he fascinates about, he is what he can do and to his surprise he was not the man who was willing to do this, he decided that he will give her the 500 dollars and then tell her to leave but he was completely unable to phrase it, he failed to find any word he was looking for, maybe the wine would help, he grabbed the glass from her and drank the whole thing in one gulp, he quickly made up his mind, took $500 from his closet, went back to her, gave her a smile and then fell to the ground unconscious. When he woke up ‘Amanda’ was gone and so were his belongings.

Random Story #5

 FREE FALL:AN ATTEMPTED SUICIDE
It was a sunny morning, the bright sun provided for a beautiful sight but sadly very few people noticed it, most found it’s arrogant brightness slightly harsh and cruel. He was sitting in the balcony enjoying the beautiful morning, the heat was slightly uncomfortable but it did not bother him, he was not his usual agitated self, complaining about every little thing that went wrong in his life, he felt at peace with himself. I guess the knowledge of the future does that to people, the day had finally arrived 11th of February, he was apprehensive the night before but today he was sure like he had never been in his entire life, probably it was the effect of the date, it was the same date when it all began and he was going to end it today once and for all, the irony of the situation appealed to him. Life didn’t exactly turn out the way he had wanted it to, at least his death would.
The past few years had been disastrous for him, it’s been a free fall down to the dumps, after passing out of college he thought his life would take off but that just never happened, he tried hard to get a job for an year or so, then recession arrived and things went from bad to worse, he was disappointed but not disheartened because he never really wanted any job, he had an idea but he needed some financing, his father was reluctant. His mobile rang, ‘happy birthday kiddo, I am busy now will meet you in the evening’ the message said, it was his elder brother, the model son a his father would say, his brother did agree to give him 1 lac bucks but that wasn’t enough, he invested the money in the share market hoping to increase his capital, unfortunately not only did he loose all the money, he had a debt of 75,000, which he had not informed anyone about. There were other messages from his friends, none of them had called, they never really talked, it was way too awkward, most of them were married, they all had their professional lives, they were all quite successful and were on their way to becoming rich, occasionally he would bump into one of them on the road, they would have the formal chat but he found that little span of time unbearably condescending.
He was a bright student once, but the thought of the success that could have been his was too much to bear. ‘He is a very talented kid, he just needs to concentrate’, the teachers would say to his parents, he was once what every kid in the class wanted to be, but somewhere down the line he lost interest in everything remotely academic. The only thing good in his life was his girlfriend, she was the only one who trusted him but even she broke up with him 4 months ago and a week ago he heard she was getting married to one of the guys he went school with, who now worked for some IT firm, since then he had developed an unhealthy hatred against the IT guys. It was after this news that he had decided that he had enough and it was time he took pity on himself and ended his misery. He was 27 unemployed and still living with his parents, he couldn’t justify his living anymore.
His parents were awake now, mother wanted him to take a bath and say a little prayer, it was time to leave he decided, ignoring whatever his parents had to say he left his house. He reached the place he was born, in those days it was a small two storey hospital now it was a huge complex housing three modern buildings each catering to different parts of a human body, it was the sign of how the country has been developing and how he had somehow missed out, it was the symbol of his failure. He reached the terrace of one of the buildings, he never thought he would quit but he liked the fact that he could still surprise himself. When he was on the edge of the roof he realized something he did not know about himself, he was afraid of heights. All of a sudden he got frightened, he began having second thoughts, maybe he should give himself another year but before he could get carried away he got a hold of himself, he closed his eyes and thought about the happiest day of his life, the day he won the 100 meter race beating his champion elder brother for the first time, it was that day that he had realized he could achieve anything he put his mind to, he was calm once again, he felt his body go in a free fall, he heard a few voices but they all seemed very distant and soon faded in the background, he felt the sweet morning air hit his face and for the first time felt free in a several years, he felt like a kid again, crossing the finishing line.
Apparently a hospital is not the best place to attempt a suicide, a few people had seen him on the roof and had made a last minute attempt to save him, he did manage to survive but not before suffering a broken spinal cord, a crushed hip and hundreds of broken bones and fractures, he woke up to see the faces of his parents , brother and a pain so intense and excruciating he couldn’t believe a living man could bear, he was not sure what had happened but he knew he was in hell.

Fate and Other Disasters

-->

It was one of those afternoons when I felt sleepy but was quite unwilling to sleep, so I decided to write something, anything that came to my mind without really trying to make up my mind or give a particular direction to my train of thoughts, writing without thinking, these are literally random thoughts. I liked what I read so I decided to post it.
Sometimes I just wonder how the two decades of my life have  shaped , what strikes me the most here is the fact that how little of it was in my control, how much of it is already decided , fate some might say it but the idea makes me very uncomfortable. It’s a sick idea , shows the characteristic lack of imagination that is plaguing  this modern world of ours , for the sake of arguments let’s  just say there is this all powerful being called GOD who created this infinite universe of ours and for some reason decided to lavish all his attention on to us , the humble inhabitants of the minuscule planet  Earth , why would he create so many  characters give them the wonderful quality of intelligence and then decide every event of their lives , where is the fun in that don’t you think he would rather sit back and watch the plot grow ,he could decide a few things to keep the proceedings  interesting but the entire story is as much of a surprise to him as is it is a suspense to us. What really worries me is the fact that how much of my life is governed by the prejudices of other people living or dead. Even before I was born my parents decided I am not supposed   to have any siblings.
When I grew a bit older nature taught me to go for what I want, so I utilized whatever little resources I had , first I tried using my underdeveloped language skills to communicate with my parents, when that failed I tried squealing , crying, shouting  initially I won but soon I learned I will  not get everything I want , I will have to  choose my battles . I was taught that obedience was a desirable trait and I should strive to attain it , which meant acting upon the wishes of the older members of the family , apparently my natural instincts were wrong, “We know what’s best for you “ I was told ,arguing was what I was not supposed to do, why should I argue, all it’s going to do is make me think, now nobody wants that , why must one think when everything has been decided by GOD all we need to do is abide by his wishes. A few years later I find myself in an institution called school, yet more people telling me what I should do , the books have  some really amazing pictures , I find myself intrigued ,I  am lost in them , I begin making imaginary stories about them but my thoughts are interrupted ,”Concentrate “ the teacher tells me ,why is the writers story more important than mine I ask myself, my interest in the book diminishing. Soon I realize that everything that I am going to study has already been decided and what I thought about it did not matter. Years later I find myself in an engineering college struggling to study what I really want to and in the process being forced to load my brain with all this unnecessary crap which I don’t remember a week after the exam. “Where is all this going?” I often find myself wondering but never seem to find a satisfactory answer no matter how much I contemplate on the subject, this uncertainty excites me the possibilities seem endless but what if there indeed is fate, the idea of future just an illusion and all these possibilities I see the byproduct of my deluded mind, these thoughts make me sick but then again they haven’t found a gene for fate yet so there is still hope and I have decided to cling on to it.

Random Story #4

It’s been a while since my last post, I guess I have been offline for rather long I see a few people have visited my blog during my absence and some have even written comments, well that’s always pleasant anyways thank you all for reading. Most of you have liked my stories, that’s a pleasant surprise and for those who weren’t satisfied there is always a next time. So Happy New Year to all and here is Random Story #4.
A HERO'S TALE

It’s a lazy winter afternoon and our hero is getting bored everyone else in the house is busy with an afternoon siesta but he being a 10 year old boy is bubbling with too much energy to engage in a similar act. He is getting increasingly restless , “what should I do?” our hero wonders. After a little brainstorming he decides to hit the neighborhood playground. He calls a few of his friends but apparently their mothers don’t think it is such a great idea, so our hero decides to go solo like heroes often do. The park was rather empty , “so, this is why our performance at the Olympics is so pathetic” our hero concluded. After a bit of wandering around he got bored and decided to visit the nearby mall to check out the new toys and maybe update his list of birthday wishes. As he was scanning through the toy store he saw something and his eyes brightened, on taking a closer look our hero realized it was a Rs.500 note.
What should he do now? Give it to the owner of the owner of the place, there was no one else around , ”but why should he get it ? it wasn’t his either and moreover he didn’t even let me touch the toys properly”, our hero thought of the new power ranger toy he could buy, his father had turned a deaf ear to this demand of his, “it’s too expensive and you always get bored and throw them away” he had said. But what about the fact that every other friend of his had one of these in their possession, he had resigned to the fact that his father will never understand and he was never going to get it but this was his chance to redeem himself infront of his friends to be the cool kid once again, our hero weighed the pros and cons and came to the most logical conclusion, “I am going to take the money”, the decision was made. Before anyone could see our hero picked it up, slipped it into his pocket and clandestinely fled the scene, not a very heroic exit one could say.
After our hero had made the list of the things he decided to buy with the 500 bucks he recently acquired he went ahead to buy the first thing on the list, his favorite ‘Dairy Milk’, as he was busy counting the money left a very old lady approached him with a semi naked  5 year old suffering from malnutrition beside her begging for money. The plight of the five year old moved our hero and he generously gave them 50 bucks, the old lady was surprised and elated at the same time, she thanked him a million times and wished for his well being, but our hero was surprised by the fact that how good this felt, so our hero radically decided to sacrifice the socially critical toy to help the beggars, they were easier to find then he had thought and within half an hour all his money was over. Our hero was ecstatic with the turn of events of the day, maybe even overjoyed. On his way home biting on the dairy milk he had bought he was sure he had never been more happy and content at the same time.
Our hero like most others was not blessed with good fortune. The place from where he got his beloved chocolate was a place his father frequented to buy cigarettes, the shopkeeper had returned our hero Rs. 10 less then what he should have, our hero was in a philanthropic spree and couldn’t have cared less but the shopkeeper was an honest fellow and gave the 10 bucks to his father and told him about the 500 rupees. Our hero’s parents had a quick meeting  and they came to the conclusion that their son had stolen the money from somewhere, oblivious of this recent build up our hero was sitting in his room basking on his own glory. What followed is for you to imagine. All I could make out from the screaming and squealing was a hero’s fall from grace.

Random Story #3

 ONE MISSED CALL

He was lying on his bed but he was not trying to sleep nor had he just woken up, he just didn’t feel like doing anything else, the ceiling fan caught his fancy while he was wondering of the human condition, wondering how some people worked so hard while others spent their day being slothful and how everything led to nowhere, all of this while trying to figure out how fast the fan above rotated. His mobile rang, it was precariously placed on the table and because it vibrated as it rang it fell, you would think he will spring into action to check the well being of his mobile but agility was nowhere to be seen. Nokia made sturdy phones he had realized the fact long ago, he had lost count of how many times his phone fell but his thoughts had been disturbed so he reluctantly left the bed picked up his phone, nothing wrong as usual, the ring was a reminder it was time to buy grocery he hated shopping for groceries but then again he hated everything that required physical labor the only thing he loved doing was wonder about stuff, he decided to go because he was literally out of everything, food was a necessity, so he walked all the way to his bathroom to wash his face made a vain attempt to fix his ruffled hairs and then began a search for his car keys, a look at his house and you would say it was pretty clean by a bachelor’s standard ofcourse but it’s not because he loved cleaning but because he was too lazy to make the place untidy.

Finally in the car he drove to the nearest store, he loved these new American style stores, just go around and pick up whatever you feel like no more need for lists or standing in front of the store owner waiting for him to answer your queries only to realize the desired product is not available. He took a quick tour of the place picked up some necessary items and a lot of attractively packaged useless crap. Payment was done by credit card it was easier this way, no need to count or worry for change all you needed to do was hand over the card and sign on a little slip moreover it was never fun to give away real money, the actual transaction was so well hidden he no longer felt the pinch the credit card had truly set him free. Back in his car he was wondering of the work that needed to be done, Sunday would eventually end today the thought killed him a little. The mobile was calling for his attention but before he could reach it, the phone fell again, he sighed in exasperation and went down to pick it up completely oblivious of the SUV abode a reckless driver coming right at him.

The blood in his eyes made his vision unclear, the shock of the collision had left his ears temporarily dysfunctional, he could see the SUV burning the driver is probably dead he thought and now the fear of his own mortality hit him, he was too young, he was not yet ready to die, there were a lot of experiences he was yet to have all the astrologers had predicted a long and healthy life for him, this couldn’t be right. The car was upside down, pain emerged in every part of his body as his deafness ended, his body was in an awkward position but the seat belt was stuck, he tried to grab that swiss knife but it was just out of his reach, he noticed his phone was still working, ‘one missed call from mother’ it said. Mother would be devastated if I died today, more pain he made another attempt to break free but his hands were absolutely powerless , he hoped and prayed for help to arrive but with every passing second hopelessness grew, he realized his ribs were broken more excruciating pain, he tried to divert his attention by thinking of something pleasant but failed, it was becoming increasingly difficult for him to keep his eyes open, maybe this was it he thought, no point shouting or crying, he closed his eyes and thought of all the things he had done, all the things he could have done but mostly he thought of things he had avoided doing. As he was about to begin his journey in to oblivion he felt a couple of hands grabbing him.

Random Story #2

HIDDEN INTENTIONS
The room was dimly lit, there were scented candles all around, a pretty romantic environment one might say, the two lovers were lying on the bed both half naked perhaps in the middle of their foreplay, but neither of them moved, maybe they were teasing each other. There was a third person present in the room a woman, in the midst of twenty different aromas there was one that stood apart it was more potent than the others, it came from the gun that the woman had, it was the smell of gun powder.
She stood there looking at the consequence of her action, the man with the bullet in his chest was her husband the girl beside him had been a regular recipient of his affection for the past one year or so, a bullet landed on her head. She had known about her husband's spread of affection for the past couple of months she was waiting to catch him in the act, today she finally got the chance she brought the gun along just to terrorise them, it was her husband’s which he had ironically bought for his own protection, but the sight of her husband with another woman was too much for her she went straight in and began an open fire, the first three missed their destination but as they say practice makes one perfect the next three produced the desired result.
She hadn’t moved a bit, still holding the gun out as if waiting for someone to come through the wall, she was trying to resist every thought that came in her mind,  afraid to know how she felt about it, hoping that this is all a dream and she is about to wake up too afraid to know what lies next but slowly reality did sink in, overwhelmed she fell to the ground but to her surprise she found herself laughing, she felt great and it terrified her but she couldn’t help it she felt like she was nineteen again having her first orgasm. She often had dreams of killing people but she neglected them as nightmares but now she knew what they really meant, the thrill she felt was beyond anything she had ever experienced no matter how much she tried tears never arrived, she kept searching but could not find a hint of remorse.   Self preservation kicked in and she began the clean up so that no evidence of her presence is found, in the meanwhile a new thought struck her that both horrified and excited her to the same extent, the thought of performing the next kill.

Random Story #1

This post contains the first of a series of short stories I plan to write. All the stories will be unrelated, they will all be short and abrupt, most of them will try to make sense (I cannot guarantee anything). These stories are purely fictional like most of my other posts but these stories are different in the sense that they won’t be written in the form of a first person account. So here is Random Story#1:

HE AND SHE
He is standing in front of the door, his eyes giving away the pain his face is so desperately trying to hide, staring at it as if waiting for a clue, a little something that would tell him what lay beyond it. The door stares back at him impassively, he looks at the door bell but the thought of anymore noise disgusts him, after the events of the day he cannot tolerate anymore noise his body instinctively moves a step back, blood is oozing out of his left leg the pain still very ripe, his socks which were immaculately white in the morning are all damp and red. All he was looking for was a bit of peace a place where he could sit silently away from all those intrusive eyes, no sympathetic words, no accusatory questions, just silence, to calm himself, to detach himself from the paranoia and come to a decision on what to do next but unfortunate as he was his home was no longer that place. He had taught himself t to deal with those nagging questions but today was a different day, patience was no longer at his disposal he knew he would end up hurting her and what would the kids think, he had completely forgotten about the son and the daughter, he couldn’t let them see him like this, ahh……his thoughts were interrupted by a surge of blinding pain in his dislocated shoulder but he was not sure what hurt more.
She was lying on the bed her eyes burdened with sleep, hoping praying that the bell doesn’t ring, an emergency meeting a city wide massive traffic jam, somehow anyhow he is an hour late, she was desperate for an hour of peaceful sleep. After a marathon session which included everything from feeding the kids to disciplining them to finishing their homework along with all the other household chores, she was completely exhausted but finally alone, the son was at piano practice the daughter went for dancing lessons, all she needed was an hour to rejuvenate and after that she would be ready once again to devote herself to him and the kids, but she needed this one hour just for herself, she never wanted the second kid just an year after the boy was born but he insisted and her life has been a chaos ever since, he used to be sensitive and caring but now he lived as if there is a set pattern that needed to be followed overlooking all the changes happening in and around him, she was aware that all these years of living together  had made both them bitter, but she could deal with all this what really disappointed her was that he never turned into the man she expected him to become one day.

Just Kidding

It’s been two decades since I first arrived in this three dimensional world of ours, my entry wasn’t exactly graceful, I remember being very exasperated and using the little strength I had in crying but in my defense a nice juicy slap on my butt was not exactly the kind of welcome I was expecting, the doctor responsible for my predicament was really enjoying herself it’s been twenty years and I still remember the sadistic grin on her face. The first couple of months were mostly spent in sleeping,  I needed some time to adjust to my new surroundings, the next few months were the golden phase I literally didn’t have to do anything it was like I was on auto pilot mode my life moved forward without any effort from my side, what I  enjoyed most was when someone tried to teach me to speak they would keep on saying  “papa” and “mama” over and over again while I would just blankly stare back  trying to conceal my laughter , sometimes when I really felt like messing with them as soon as they would stop I would mumble something  gibberish and they would start all over again. Oh those were some good days.
Now  the thing is, good days are like trial version of a very expensive software as soon as you get used to them they come to  an end and start demanding  unreasonable prices. One fine morning my parents came to a not so fine conclusion that I was too heavy to be carried around and must learn to walk, all my resistance was in vain and just like that my golden phase came to an end. As it turned out learning to walk wasn’t all that terrible. It gave me my first taste of freedom, now I could grab that that distant paperweight kept on that distant table, examine its features, play with it or ‘accidentally’ break it, one of my several ways of getting back at my parents for ending my golden phase. The possibilities seemed endless, one of my favorite vengeful activity was to hide or throw away footwear of the guests who visited my home, apparently if people are leaving and someone is unable to find his/her shoes/sandal the whole bunch gets really annoyed, soon I realized that all I needed was to hide just one of the two not the whole pair.
Soon my acts of rebellion took a toll on my parents and they began punishing me, initially the punishments were mild like not going out to play or no cartoon, they were a breeze I would always find something more interesting to do that would annoy my parents even more, unfortunately for me my mother soon realized how impotent these punishments were and resorted to more physical ones, I still remember the first time mother slapped me, the sheer shock caused by this action of hers made my mind go completely blank, it was like I had forgotten the art of speech but soon enough fear kicked in, fear of the next slap and it was then I began with the water works, I could see the remorse on her face. There are a lot of great things about being a single child but if one has no siblings one cannot blame anyone else for the broken flower vase or the missing chocolate biscuits no matter how good a liar one is, oh yeah lying was the first thing fear taught me, so the slaps kept on coming but the really frightening thing was that the remorse I first saw on her face was no longer present. Sometimes I would run away from her, in the early days she used to out run me and when she no longer could I realized I had nowhere to go. It’s amazing that it never really occurred to me that I could stop my shenanigans, the only thing the slaps were able to do was generate fear loads of fear but the problem was that fear to a kid is like a bollywood cop it always appears after the screw up has been performed, when it’s too late. All in all being a baby boy was fun, all this writing has made me nostalgic so you better keep an eye on your shoes.
